Population, Job Growth, and Commuting 

Census Division 19 which includes the County and City of Grande Prairie is expected to see significant population growth between 2023 and 2031, beating the projected national population growth rate but behind Alberta’s projected growth rate. Our region’s wages are also higher than the national average but slightly behind those of the province. Division 19 is projected to beat the province on job creation indicating that our population to job growth ratio is higher but behind the national projection.

In terms of total job growth the highest number of new jobs are driven by Accommodation and Food Services, and Health care and social assistance but the growth in Mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction and Agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting are the largest projected drivers of economic impact and wage growth in the County because these jobs act as economic multipliers supporting the other sectors.
